Principal, Mr. Dorin Oxender
Dorin Oxender began his professional journey in Michigan, spending twelve years in hospitality management. He then transitioned to education, serving for three years as a teacher’s assistant at a vocational culinary training school while pursuing his bachelor’s degree.
In 1995, Dorin and his wife relocated to Fort Myers, Florida. He started teaching at Immokalee High School, where he quickly advanced to become the Career and Technical Education Department Chair. His leadership skills led to further promotions: first to Dean of Students, then Assistant Principal. In 2006, he was selected to develop and open Immokalee Technical College (iTECH) as its founding Director.
Under Dorin’s direction, iTECH flourished. In January 2020, he oversaw the opening of a new branch campus in Naples the iTECH Center for Manufacturing Excellence which focused on manufacturing training. The following year, in February 2021, he opened iTECH Glades Technical College in Moore Haven, Glades County. This campus serves as a regional training center for both adults and high school students across the Heartland Region, including Glades, Hendry, Highlands, and Okeechobee Counties - a collaboration unprecedented in the state. Dorin and his wife retired in July 2024.
Personal Life
Nine years ago, after two years of research, Dorin purchased land on Junaluska Road in Andrews, North Carolina, seeking the perfect location for retirement. He and his wife enjoyed several weeks each year in Andrews before moving there permanently in August 2024.
Dorin has been married to his wife, Shelia, for 39 years. They have one daughter, Shea, age 26, who holds a Master’s degree in Forestry Resources and Conservation. Shea’s husband, Hunter, holds a Master’s degree in Public Administration and serves as a Captain in the United States Air Force.
Education
Dorin Oxender holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Central Michigan University and a Master of Education in Educational Leadership from Florida Gulf Coast University.
