As many of you who follow our Throwback Thursday series know, when our current facility was built, the Old White Building's cornerstone was placed in the right-hand corner next to the front entrance. You also know that it was removed in 1992 when the red brick came in during the first remodel.
Joshua Badillo-Jimenez, Marketing Specialist, spoke with Mayor and DLA Teacher James Reid about it and he mentioned that it is actually still on the premises. After a bit of searching, they found the big cornerstone from the October 27, 1906 dedication of the first Andrews Public School.
A smaller second cornerstone that laid on top of the first in our current building was also found, but only half. With the help of custodian Lorri Reid, the missing piece was found.
Andrews High School presents to you the 1906 cornerstones from the first Andrews School. We have some big plans for these stones, but we will need to get them cleaned and fixed up, so stay tuned!
