ATTENTION PARENTS

Attendance
Per CCS policy, students who have more than 7 absences will receive a failing grade for the semester.

Parent Portal
If you missed Open House but would still like to learn about Parent Portal, an online site where parents can go and access student's grades and attendance, please come by AHS to get instructions.  We will need a copy of your picture ID.  You can bring it with you or we can make a copy for you.  There is also an agreement you must sign.  If you would like to download a copy and bring it with you, you can find it at Cherokee County Schools website at: www.cherokee.k12.nc.us and choose the Parent Portal Use Agreement link in the center of the page.

School Hours
AHS school day begins at 7:55 am and ends at 3:05 pm. Excessive tardies will result in detention.  Please ensure your son or daughter is at school and on time.

Lunch
Students cannot sign out of school for lunch.  Leaving for lunch is an infraction of Cherokee County Board Policy 4215 (see page 9 in your handbook).  Students leaving for lunch, or family/friends bringing food from restaurants to school, violates the guidelines for the Federal Free and Reduced Lunch program.

Lunch is provided daily at AHS and students are welcome to bring lunch from home, but there can be no outside commercial competition to the Free and Reduced Lunch Program.  Violation of this policy jeopardizes the Free and Reduced Lunch program for all students.

If students have dentist or doctor's appointments scheduled during lunch, parents will need to come to AHS and sign out their students in person.

Congratulations

Virginia Haynes, Cherokee County Principal of the Year!

Joslyn Parker, our 2014 AHS Teacher of the Year!

Summer Driver's Ed

The NC General Assembly has not finalized the budget, so we are not sure about Driver's Ed.  However, we would like to get a list of students who will be 14 and a half and are interested in taking a class this summer.  The class is planned for July 27-August 7 8:00-11:00 a.m. at AHS.  If your son/daughter is interested, they should sign up at AHS office.

Plants

Once again, AHS students are sprucing up the campus by adding plants.  With the recent construction in the stadium and other new additions, we need to fill in many areas.  If you have plants you would like to donate, please drop them off at the office or call 321-5415 and someone will pick them up.

Picnic Tables

We are looking to upgrade the outdoor classroom across the bridge from the office area with concrete picnic tables and benches.  If you know of a local distributor for concrete tables, please contact AHS with this information. Also, if you are an AHS alumni and would like to donate to the picnic table fund or purchase a table as a graduating class, please contact Ms. Lindsay.

Free and Reduced Lunch Forms

Free and Reduced Lunch forms are still available in the office at AHS and here
